A July 2014 research study, Coffee enema for preparation for small bowel video capsule endoscopy: a pilot study, shows "coffee enemas may be a feasible option, and there were no clinically significant adverse events related to coffee enemas."
According to the study, excreted bile is one of the causes of poor preparation of the small bowel for an endoscopy. Since coffee enemas are believed to cause dilatation of bile ducts and excretion of bile through the colon wall, the researchers decided to study and then evaluate the feasibility and effect of coffee enemas for preparation of the small bowel. The researchers found that in the middle and distal segments of the small intestine, bowel preparations tend to be better in patients who received coffee enemas.
This study is a huge leap in backing up the healing experiences of the coffee enema: The coffee enema was first rigorously used as a healing treatment by Dr. Max Gerson, MD in the 1940s and 1950s to treat his cancer patients. He used the coffee enema because its therapeutic action is to improve the abilities of the liver and the gallbladder to remove toxins and cancerous metabolic byproducts by stimulating the flow of bile. Many waste products, including bilirubin, are eliminated from the body by secretion into bile and elimination in feces.
You'd like to detox? Optimize your bile flow! Hung over? Optimize bile flow! Want to support your body to simply feel better? Optimize bile flow! Chronically ill? Optimize bile flow! Efficient bile flow is one of our body’s most important resources for staying healthy. Clients at the clinic who use coffee enemas with their colon cleanse report less pain and greater health. In fact, it is common for people to call the Optimal Health Network and tell us: "Coffee enemas saved my life!"
Simple Coffee Enema Recipes
Make the coffee enema solution that is optimal for you. Some people need a weak coffee solution, others a stronger coffee solution.
- If you are sensitive to caffeine, use a weak enema coffee solution.
- If you don't have time to take a coffee enema until the evening, but it keeps you awake, use a weak coffee enema solution.
- If you are following a Gerson protocol to recover from cancer, take a strong coffee enema solution.
- You may learn that if you use a medium strength coffee enema, you don't "feel buzzed" afterwards.
Grind the beans. Set your grinder to fine. You can also use pre-ground coffee.
Weak Coffee Enema Solution:
1 quart of quality water to 1 tablespoon of ground coffee
Medium Strength Coffee Enema Solution:
1 quart of quality water to 2 tablespoons of ground coffee
Strong Coffee Enema Solution:
1 quart of quality water to 3-4 tablespoons of ground coffee
How to Make Enema Coffee
Using a Standard Coffee Maker:
- Place the filter into the brewing basket. Following the instructions for your particular coffee maker, use the right size filter and place in the basket.
- Add the grounds.
- Fill the reservoir. Use the carafe as a measuring cup by filling it with a quart of water for the amount of coffee you have used. (Most coffee pots have measurements on the side.)
- Turn on the coffee maker. After a minute or two of pre-heating the water, your coffee should begin brewing. The coffee is done when you stop hearing bubbling sounds.
- Wait for coffee to cool to 95-100°F. Now, add your coffee enema solution to your enema bag.
Using a One-Quart French Press:
- Boil water in a pan or kettle.
- Add ground coffee to the carafe. Put the grounds directly into the bottom of the carafe.
- Pour hot water into the carafe, moving the stream around to saturate all the coffee, just below the metal ring.
- Stir the grounds after a minute or two.
- Put a lid on it. Place the vented lid and press assembly onto the carafe, making sure the vented portion of the top is aligned with the lip of the carafe.
- Press! At the 4-minute bell, gently but firmly press the plunger down to the bottom. This will filter out the grounds, and stop the brewing process.
- Wait for coffee to cool to 95-100°F. Now, add your coffee enema solution to your enema bag.
Using a Single Cup Cone:
- Boil water in a pan or kettle.
- Place cone onto the cup. Fold the brown paper filter at its seam, and place in the cone.
- Add the coffee grounds.
- Pour only enough water into the filter to saturate the grounds. Move the stream of water around to saturate all the grounds evenly, but avoid pouring too much—you want very little water actually dripping through on the first pour. Let bloom for about 30 seconds.
- Now fill the cone with water, breaking down the bloom and saturating all the grounds evenly. Fill the cone until the water is just about at the top of the cone, and let the water filter through the coffee, into the cup.
- When the cup is full, quickly move the cone from your drinking cup to the waste cup so that it can finish dripping through.
- Pour 3 cups of warm water (just above room temperature) into your enema bag. Add your cup of hot coffee. (This method of only brewing one cup of coffee and then adding in the 3 cups of cooler water can be used with a standard coffee maker or a French press.)
NOTE: The perfect temperature of the enema coffee for taking a coffee enema is 95-100°F (35-37°C). Never put freshly brewed coffee in the colon!
NOTE: If you take frequent coffee enemas, it is fine to make the coffee extra strong and store extra coffee in the refrigerator in a glass jar.
How to Improve Your Coffee Enema
Our OHN Coffee Enema Essential Oil Blend is used in coffee enemas to increase glutathione levels even more than coffee alone is able to do. Glutathione reacts with free radicals (which cause cell damage) in the bloodstream and makes them inert. These neutralized substances are then dissolved in the bile, released through the bile flow from the liver and gallbladder, and excreted through the intestinal tract.
Our OHN Coffee Enema Essential Oil Blend also helps to stimulate liver cell function, optimize gallbladder function, stimulate the pancreas, support wound healing, remove petrochemicals, and support lymph drainage. Overall this oil blend enhances the action of the coffee enema and will balance the strong purgative effects of the coffee with its regenerative healing properties.
